That definition of the word is problematic, according to people who have that view. Same as the issue of "Latino" being used to describe everyone, which erases the existence of women in the group (because they same word is used regardless of if they are there, whereas the existence of a single male changes the word used to "his" word, regardless of how many women there are). It's an imbalance in power, issue, for those who are concerned about that fair enough maybe... man as mankind being fratercentric 'could' be a problem (I don't see it as one)... so why not go latin and go 'sap' short for 'sapiens'.
