Update on my "playable tactician" ROM hack playthrough: I beat Lyn's story, and up to this point, nothing else was different besides the Tactician. I have absolutely no idea what his growths are (I could go into the files and check if I wanted to but I don't feel like it) but in seven level-ups, he managed to not gain a single point of Defense and only one point in Skill. Defense doesn't matter for a mage, but the low Skill could be an issue.

Then I started on Eliwood's story. At this point I thought the Tactician really was going to be the only thing different, and then this guy showed up.

Whoever made this ROM hack just completely replaced Bartre with Batta The Beast, the prologue jobber from Lyn's story, for no fucking reason at all. He's even the Brigand class (which is normally not playable in FE7) and his stats are actually pretty decent. Low HP for an axe user, but better Speed and Luck. He also came with two Ocean Seals, and I assume one of them is to promote him from Brigand to Berserker (the Brigand class shares that promotion with the Pirate class that's actually normally playable) but I don't know why he came with two of them.

VBA? I don't really use emulators but the one I remember using is mGBA

I actually play my stuff on a homebrewed PS Vita, using the Vita version of mGBA. But on the computer (for when i need to take screenshots, use gameshark/AR codes, or test out ROM hacks and save file edits) I use VBA.
