AEW Dark 6/1/2021 (listed as episode 91)

54minute episode, the shortest in a long while.

Cesar & Ryan Nemeth (w/Peter) v Gunn Club (Billy & Colton).

Jungle Boy promo. Very little energy to the promo despite the fact its supposed to set up THREE matches JB v Kenny, JB & Christian v Private Party, and JB v Bear Bronson. Honestly, if thats the kind of promo he cuts, its no wonder he never got into acting.

Kris Stantlander v Robyn Renegade. So Robyn is doing two jobs this week? >_> Notable for Kris getting a little color courtesy of a busted lip.

TH2 & Serpentico v DOs Alan 5 Angels, Stu Grayson, & Reynolds. I usually skip most DO tag matches (although Ill sometimes give them a minute or two), but this has TH2.

Diamante v Red Velvet. Kind of a meh match. I still cant recall ever seeing a good Diamante match.

Backstage segment with DO. A5A is making a big deal about performing in front of people. Absolute garbage, complete waste of time.

Jungle Boy (w/ JE) v Bear Bronson. Not as loud of a reaction as I was expecting at first, but once the music stopped the chanting started. I will say one thing about the match it had a great visual. JB is small enough to play Bronson as a monster heel. And overlooking that Bronsons look fake as shit, it was a decent-looking match.

Oh, and Excalibur started calling Bronson Boulder at one point (like two or three times in a row) because he sucks at his job. Plus they kept focusing the camera on Marko Runt outside the ring, which was just fucking stupid and distracting. You have a massive crowd and youre showing that clown.

Otherwise, it was 5 matches in 54 minutes. Considering they had a lot of backstage segments and promos, the actual matches had to average 7-9 minutes, but most of them felt a little long. Its also an indictment on the womens division that they dont have enough talent that they were stuck using enhancement talent when all of the mens matches involved guys who have appeared on Dynamite. (And, even worse, they used Robyn two days in a row.)

And in other news, I wound up watching some old MLW and ROH stuff recently, including a dog collar match between Raven and Punk. The dog collar match iirc was 2003, which was a few years before the ECW/EC-Dub relaunch where Punk wound up with the WWE (and Heyman wanted to make him champ, but VKM sidelined him).

Even when you see Punk's old stuff, you can see the star potential there. The guy was so great, and they constantly held him down in favor of guys they wanted to make into stars (Lashley, Reigns, etc).
