Has Yglesias really changed his views that much? I don't follow him that closely (especially since he went to Substack), but he always seemed like he was only just barely left of Obama. The big difference is that the political spectrum has shifted such that his ideas have gone from "crazy radical leftist" to "mainstream Democratic consensus".

He's weird. Definitely left of center but during the primaries he did a lot more promo for Bernie and Warren. But his commitment to being a professional contrarian outweighs political affiliation and it's like you say. As more center-left policies go mainstream he's had to differentiate by proposing outlandish (but still decidedly liberal) policies like ONE BILLION AMERICANS or complaining about the "woke" left (ez money for independent journos). I'd say he's got more of a centrist veneer to him now.
