I'd say Gundam Unicorn needs a fair bit of context going in because it's pretty much the "latest" work in its continuity (barring the NT movie and the upcoming sequel projects), but supposedly people have watched the OVA series just fine without knowing anything. (By "latest," I mean there are works taking place after it like F91 and Victory but those have virtually no connection) Also, yeah, it's got a great soundtrack. One of the first places I heard Sawano's music from, and I've been a fan of his orchestral stuff since.
