AEW Elevation 5/27/21

This weeks episode is. 2 hours 27 minutes long >_< It was also the first week that they didnt have an episode number for it.

Jungle Boy v Adrian Alanis (0-4 record) Fucking Marco Runt running out and spoiling that ring entrance At any rate, Alanis sucks, but JB was more than enough to carry the match.

Aaron Solow v Dustin Rhodes -- I love how Big Show claimed the stairs weigh 275 pounds. Its a good way of selling Camarados strength, but bullshit. Love Dustins facepaint, etc. The one thing I dont get is that the Factory brings an army to the ring but Dustin is alone. Wtf? At any rate, its been a while since I saw Dustin wrestle and this was a kinda so-so match.

Moxley & E Kingston v Danny Limelight and Royce Isaacs I guess Danny and Royce are just a team now? AEW really doesnt believe in building up these partnerships. Eddy and Danny were great in the early going and then Eddy tagged to Moxley and Danny tagged in Royce. The match was kinda meh after that. Highlight of the match was Danny doing a double rope jump into a DDT. Looked great.

Jake the Snake promo with Lance Archer. I guess Jake is focused on Sting, but Lance wants to fight Miro for the TNT title? Idk, I couldnt make out half of what Jake said, but it sounded like he meant whatever it was he said.

Lance v Bear Bronson I like Lance, I like Bear Country, so it naturally had my attention even if Bear is clearly going to be doing a job and probably a quick one at that. Lance v Boulder would have looked convincing, but Bronson is the smaller member of Bear Country. So even though they were playing it as a big man match, Bronson isnt big enough. The early going was a lot of trading chops and shots, which was fun for what it was, but meh. It also wound up being a lot more competitive than I expected. The announcing was shit, though.

This was the 42-minute mark, and theyd only done 4 matches.

Paul Wight interview with Ryan Nemeth. The interview indirectly referenced the fact that hes Dolph Zigglers little brother (which I had to do a double-take at the photo, since the Sydals look so much like Ziggler as well). Looking at his wiki, I guess he was with NXT before I started watching. Idk, hes an okay wrestler, but hes nowhere near on par with Dolph. Apparently the Hollywood Hunk thing references the fact hes done some tv and film work over the years. I kinda like these segments, although this one did less for Ryan than the other ones did for theirs.

Leyla Hirsh v Natalia Markova. Pre-match discusses how Markova is a champ from Shine. Super-ugly woman, looks like shes had a lot of work done to her face. Shes also Russian and tiny. I dont like Leyla. Shes too tiny for that gimmick.

Sky & Ethan Page v jobbers. Fun match, as always.

Matt Hardy and Bunny promo for Kilynn King. Have you ever gone down the rabbit hole? Bunny asks. >_>

Kilynn King v Bunny. I had been wondering about Kilynns height. Big Show claimed it was 60, but Tony mentions its really 61. Anyway its weird to see the whole HFO come out with Bunny. Wtf? Tony notes that Kilynn has only been wrestling 2 years, which I guess explains why she still seems a bit green. Shes got a good amount of star power, though. On the other hand, Bunny is hot and shes got good ring presence, but shes kinda meh. Shes got good flexibility, shes athletic, but her moves are absurdly limited. Not a bad Bunny match, though.

The Acclaimed v whoever. Meh.

Sky & Ethan page backstage segment. Theyre crowing about their match, and then talk about how they helped Miro by making sure Sting didnt get involved in Darbys match despite the fact Sting stood by and did NOTHING while Miro beat Darby up before the match (which they should have rung the bell for). Im not sure why theyre so happy about Darbys title loss, because I thought they were messing with him in order to get it for themselves.

QT Marshall v Baron Black (whose record is listed as 0-10, which honestly seems low they must not be counting all of his tag losses and some other shit, because he does a job like every week). Bit over halfway through this stupidly long episode of Elevation. Probably one of BBs better matches. That near-fall near the end should have just been a fall. There was no reason to drag that out. Later on, the match revealed that Baron Black had trained with the Nightmare Factory something that hasnt ever come up, even as hes jobbed to other members which was a weird detail. Anyway, it went 5 minutes longer than it should.

Nutella v Daniel Garcia. Skipped.

(1:36:00) Backstage segment with QT, Ogogo, etc. QT bashes Jacksonville and praises AEW going back on the road. Ogogo does some talking. Hes got a bit of a lisp. Hes cutting a counter-promo on Cody, criticizing America. Pretty shit promo. Honestly, Ogogo looks like he could be somebody, but this kinda kills him.

Private Party v Alex Reynolds & Alan 5 Angels. Private Party is wrestling in street clothes again. The pre-match sees the ref ejecting the DO from ringside and then Matt & Blade get ejected. The match started outside the ring. After a minute or two of that, I just skipped the rest. I did see the very end which showed that Matt had snuck back to interfere. The aftermath just had more beating on them, then the Dork Order showed for the save.

Backstage with Kris Statlander who gets interrupted by Britt Baker who gets interrupted by Ishida. I guess Reba is going to fight Ishida on Dynamite now? Meh.

Ryan & JD Drake v Roman Rozell and Derek Pisaturo (with First Sgt) -- Given that its Ryan and JD, Im not sure which side is doing the job so Im listing both. Granted, Im assuming that Pretty Picture or whatever theyre calling themselves is going to win, but meh. The other side looks pretty cool.

Recap of something that happened on Dynamite. Didnt look bad, but I dont want Dynamite bleeding into Elevation. If that gets to be a regular thing, Im not bothering with Elevation.

Tay Conti v Kiah Dream (debut) -- What can I say about Tay that I havent already? Shes cute, but clumsy and does a lot of stuff she probably shouldnt be trusted to do.

Penta v Robo (debut) It was alright. No real comments.

Thunder Rosa v Robyn Renegade (debut) -- Probably a half-decent match, but I was pretty worn out by this point so I didnt pay a ton of attention although it notably had Paul No More BS Wight repeatedly mispronounce Dogecoin as Dodgecoin.

Backstage with Pretty Picture. Ryan is giving a self-congratulatory speech, JD interrupts. Cesar whose lisp is terrible interrupts him. This segment added nothing except to the run time.

Mike Sydal v Brian Cage -- Final match of the night and it disappoints. Mike launched a drop kick that clearly didnt connect. He ensengiris (sp?) Cage who, a minute later, stumbles out of the ring (all the way from the center!) out onto the floor so Mike can launch a suicida. I was tempted to skip the rest when he was going for it. However, it was made a *little* better since Cage caught Mike and slammed him. Later on, Cage put his arms out like he was expecting a hold, but Mike just kicked him. This was awful. Then later on Cage does a jumping knee strike on Mike while hes on the turnbuckle while very visibly slapping Mikes back for a noise. Wtf? This is some sloppy, stupid shit.

The main event was fucking awful. The rest of the night was ups and downs. Oh, and apparently Cage has a finisher called Weapon X. The guy who looks like Wolverine has a finisher called Weapon X.
