Lions receive: Pioneers 3rd round pick (96th overall) Orcas 5th round pick (138th overall) Orcas 6th round pick (170th overall) Orcas S16 2nd round pick Orcas receive: Lions 2nd round pick (41st overall) Lions 4th round pick (105th overall) Lions S16 7th round pick The Lions covet Day 3 picks to cheaply fill out their roster, and so they get a pair of them, a future 2nd, and a small Day 2 tradeup in exchange for their second this year. The Orcas give up more future draft capital for picks now as they wish to get the major part of their rebuild done now with six of the Top 64 picks. With the club expected to continue having future financial flexibility, losing out on a major benefit of the draft won't be as big of a loss for them. Both teams understood the parameters of the trade and what they hoped to achieve.
