100% Orange Juice - Dear Dragon (Theme of Sweet Breaker)
Ar nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star - Class::CIEL_N_PROTECTA;
Unreal Tournament - Foregone Destruction

MATCH 1

I tend to like rock tunes like Out of Tartarus. I feel like this song doesn't really grab my interest as much as I'd like it to though. I guess if anything, I want the song to move to some new musical idea and/or add something like vocals. I do find myself more interested in the song when it switches from clean to distortion on the guitar at 3:00. If there was something else that made me like this song a little bit more, I'd probably end up voting for this.

The first third or so of Dear Dragon isn't all that interesting to me, but it really picks up at 1:21 when the piano kicks in. Those piano lines make the song much more lively and something I like. Pretty close match, but Dear Dragon holds my attention better than Out of Tartarus, so that's what I'm going for in the end.

MATCH 2

CIEL_N_PROTECTA's my favorite song in Bracket A! I haven't done a full ranking of the whole field, but it probably stands to reason from this song being my favorite in Bracket A that it's also among my favorites in the whole contest this year as well. That intro (0:00-0:11) is probably one of my favorite things about this song. Just a crazy burst of sound right from the beginning! The rest of the song is, of course, really great as well. Other than the intro, I'd say the chorus is my next favorite part of the song. The whole song overall contains a lot of things I typically like in a song (strong vocals, lots of layered instruments and melodies/harmonies) and does them really well, so that's a strong recipe for me liking the song a lot.

I actually like Track 7 quite a bit! This isn't the kind of song that's typically associated with me, but I think it's pretty cool. I had a brief period of listening to Drum n' Bass a lot in high school (at that point in time, Netsky was probably my favorite artist in this genre, if that helps give any perspective on what my music tastes were like at the time), so this song feels a bit like a remnant of those older music tastes. There's a lot of cool stuff in this song from the chords to some of the different short loops that show up like that higher pitched bit at 0:01 and that flute-like part at 0:07. This song would be close with the match 1 songs and I'd take it over both the match 3 songs. Sadly, it's up against my literal favorite Bracket A song, so there's no chance I take it here.

MATCH 3

And here we come to another very close match! Only this time, it's because I don't care very much for either song in this match. Starting with Untamed Heart, I feel like I should like this song more than I do, but it's just not really resonating with me at all. It has this nice, soft sound that I'd be into, but I guess for me, it's lacking a strong melody and certain parts I'd otherwise be more interested have things that make me not like them as much. For instance, those piano chords starting at 1:52 I'd probably like more if they didn't have this delay effect on them.

With Foregone Destruction, I have similar complaints about this that I do about Out of Tartarus. I think that synth and piano combination creates a really cool, mysterious atmosphere, but outside of that, I don't think this song really goes anywhere that I'm interested in. When I was filling out my favorites bracket, I felt that I could flip on this match potentially, but right now I'm still feeling a slight preference for Foregone Destruction.
