Gonna make this short but I could expand if you want.

First sell EVERYTHING. You can rebuy it once you move, probably for less then you sold it for. TV's furniture etc, all of it is cheap used, and REALLY cheap if you buy from yard sales after you move. No matter how nice your stuff is, it's not worth the cost to move it.

Second even in LA you can rent a room, so if your single, don't have pets, and don't need a ton of space, you can rent a room for about $500/month, I'd spend the extra 50-100$ though to get one with it's own bathroom (which pretty much makes it the same as a studio apartment but with a full kitchen you can share.

If your just traveling with clothes/papers etc, you can easily fly or take a bus, but if you have a car, that works even better, load it up with the stuff you really want and head out.

Cost of gas for the drive is gonna be as much as a plane ticket/bus anyway so no matter what figure your gonna spend a good $500 getting there. You don't always need first/last/security when renting a room, but having it makes it MUCH easier to get one fast.

So to get into somewhere once there I'd say you want $2000 or so, $500 to actually do the trip, and another $500 for AB&B and expenses until you actually find a room.

You should be able to get a job pretty fast since your not stuck in any one location and LA is huge. You can also sign up for contract work with people ready etc and be working right away (heck even on your trip if your driving).

Therefore, to play it super safe I say you need about $3000-$4000 in addition to whatever you get for selling all your stuff (if you plan on buying it all back).

Should get you there safely and into a room with internet, and ready to work asap.
