I really liked Octopath Traveler. Beyond the armor break system, a lot of the classes had unique options that you had to synergize with the rest of your rollout. And you could cast any status on bosses iirc

I dunno, Persona gameplay is almost more the planning for the dungeon crawling moreso than the battles themselves. I mean once you're in there it's just choosing attacks that the enemy is weak to so you can All Out Attack. I admit choosing weaknesses is more complex than choosing highest damage output, but it's the same situation of "a very obvious dominant strategy exists and you could just ask the game to autoplay for you."

At least that's how P3 is. Fusing personas is pretty interesting though

If you like Octopath Traveler check out the Bravely Default series. Same team.

Almost all the Megami Tensei games have a weakness exploitation system. The earlier games tend to be much more brutal.
