This happens with pretty much every high-profile case, such that it's all but impossible to find jurors that genuinely don't have a pre-existing opinion on the matter. Everybody has an opinion on BLM, regardless of whether or not they were able to attend a protest, and virtually all of those opinions are going to be strong enough to amount to some form of bias. Should this guy have declared that conflict of interest? Yes, especially where he was explicitly asked about it. That's just best practice. Did it make an appreciable difference to the trial's outcome, such that calling it a mistrial is remotely reasonable? Almost certainly not.
