A month or two ago I would have been like "eww no nsw or victoria are better lol". But due to sickness and other assorted issues, I've been watching a lot of TV and YouTube - and two things I've seen have made me come around on Perth.

The first one was seeing a morning show fluff piece about the 50th anniversary of Hungry Jack's. Hungry Jack's is what Burger King is branded as down here, and it turns out it got the name from a Canadian entrepreneur named Jack. He'd already brought KFC down under and found success, so he tried again with a different franchise - and in my opinion, changing the name to Hungry Jack's was a perfect marketing move for Australia.

He was actually in Australia for the celebration - he flew to Perth and went back to the first Hungry Jack's that ever opened. And he had a few words to say about it.

He said something along the lines of "Perth is an entrepreneur's dream. If you have the capital and a good idea, Perth is the perfect place to try and make that dream come true." So Perth intrigues me as a market testing ground - if you live there, you might experience something great before the rest of the world does.

The second thing that happened was that I got really into Tim Minchin again. He's an Aussie singer-songwriter who's known for his comedy, and I've recently discovered some hidden gems like Woody Allen Jesus (where he compares Jesus to an increasingly ridiculous list of things). I've been watching interviews and listening to podcasts, and one of the interviews I saw dove into his love for his hometown - Perth.

And the way he describes where he grew up, and the way the stars shine on the Nullarbor plains unlike anywhere else on Earth - it was intoxicating. It made me homesick for a place I had never been to. So I have that under my belt as well.

I would take $10 million to live in Perth for 15 years. I think it'd do me a lot of good, and I think I'd enjoy it.

One thing about the good guys that I've noticed: they always beg for mercy in the end.
