I see where you're coming from but it's still not the same as removing the choice entirely. It's not like its reversible. The one you talking about is more like societal norms enforcing something, and funnily enough applies to the parents in this situation. Did they have a choice or is it all enforced behaviour because its tradition and everyone else they know did it to their children. They do have a choice even if difficult, if they're bold enough to go against the grain.
