Gameplay wise it's fine for the most part, what people hated was Dante's redesign, it being a reboot that doesn't stay faithful to the lore, and how edgy and lackluster the story, dialogue and cinematics were(Particularly the unnecessary sex scene). Ninja Theory was like "Let's reboot the series and make it solely for a American caucasian teenage punk audience!" and that is what we got. In fact DmC reminds me of how the RE series was done with RE7 and RE8, except RE7 was way more successful in comparison and we still have to wait to see how RE8 turns out sales wise.
