AEW Dark 5/4 summary

iirc, it was 14 matches in a 97-minute show, which isn't a terrible ratio even though some of those could have shorter. The Kilynn King match could have been half its length without losing anything... and they could have dropped the entire Jelly Nutella match.

Team Taz tag match (Hobbes squashed both opponents while Ricky lay down outside the ring) -- Team Taz is always fun. Because its members are high-end jobbers, they tend to have have undercard matches which show them being dominate so they don't lose all credibility due to their almost-constant losses.

Leyla Hirsch v Diamante ("revenge" match for ambush; Leyla won.) So-so match. They probably could have done more to set it up and get some mileage from it.

Varsity Blondes vs jobbers (didn't watch)

SCU vs jobbers -- Okay match. SCU is usually pretty good.

Big Swole vs Megan Bayne (new job gal with a Greek gimmick; she's bigger than Swole) -- Megan Bayne seems like she could be a star. I was curious how tall Bayne is, but google isn't returning anything (other than info about her OVW record). Swole is apparently only 5'5" so maybe maybe Bane is 5'7".

Nutella & Sonny vs jobbers (didn't watch, because Nutella and Sonny)

Kilynn King v Julia Hart (another new job girl, this time with a cheerleader gimmick.) -- Julia reminds me a little of Alexa Bliss. Cute girl, but doesn't seem to be able to do much. Whereas Swole v Bayne was decent (probably because Bayne is ex-OVW), this was a long, non-competitive match. Also it was kinda weird that Kilynn wasn't ringside for Swole and vice versa, given that they've been acting like a stable

Pac v Serpentico (was tempted to skip, but I'm happy I got to watch Aubrey cleaning up those ribbons) -- Pac is good, Serpentico is always lousy. It doesn't quite balance out, but it was decent enough.

Bunny v Leila Grey (meh)

The Acclaimed vs... whoever -- The planted fans were booing, which felt so forced

Sky & Page v Hughes Brothers -- Sky & Page are a really fun tag team. The Hughes Brothers are very athlethic and can convincingly deliver power moves

JD, Cesar Bonini, Nemeth v Dork Order -- I was tempted to skip this match (and if Peter Avalon had been in the match rather than at ringside, I definitely would have), but figured I'd watch a few minutes. In hindsight, I should have just skipped, but it was 8 minutes.

Danny Limelight v Dante Martin -- I still dislike Top Flight, but the entrance is cool. Dante is absurdly green, although he might be decent someday. He just needs a *lot* of practice.

For now, Dante is small, he's sloppy, he has no ring presence, and lacks charisma... which is what you'd expect of somebody his age and this early in his career.
While I'm not a huge Danny Limelight fan, he can convey emotion, he's halfway decent, and he's got some personality. He'll stop and smile, or stop and admire is handiwork. He doesn't just stop and pose like some of the wrestlers on the show (although he also poses). I can kinda see him being big someday.

Took a while to get going, but it was a decent match (except for that sloppy as fuck ending). I noticed that they played with the camera a lot to hide the fact Dante can't throw a convincing punch. And jfc, that ending... Dante did a sloppy power move then topped it off with a clumsy 450 splash. Honestly, the guy really isn't ready for TV, but they keep putting him.

Lancer Archer v Luther -- Luther sucks. Although he has an interesting look, he has no business wrestling on tv anywhere. That clumsy clothesline he used to knock Lance Archer through the ropes -- which either clearly didn't even touch him or barely grazed him -- was among the worst things I saw all night.

Between Archer's wrestling and Serpentico's heavy interference, it otherwise wasn't a completely awful match. And punches/forearms Luther threw where he was holding Lance with his other arm didn't look terrible

At any rate, last night I was thinking that it kinda sucks that the only two wrestling shows I bother with happen to fall two nights in a row, so it's a lot of wrestling to watch at the start of the week then nothing for the rest.

I never got around to watching that episode of AEW Dynamite a few weeks ago (or whenever it was, the one with Hikaru v Tay, Page v Starks, etc). I still kinda want to watch it, but... meh. I might try to watch part of this week's Dynamite for the Cage v Cage match and the war games match. And I'll probably try to go back and watch that D-Bryan v Reigns match on SD either last week or the week before.
