my bro has been a machine operator for 2 years, is the best worker at his place, and has only gotten a .50 cent raise over that time period. he makes ~32k in california. not enough for the cost of living

companies don't care how hard you work

Then he should start courting other companies. He may not be making what he wants where he's at, BUT he now has 2 years as an MO and can leverage that experience for better pay at a different company.
