Most factory work isn't "hard". Its mind numbingly boring and repetitive. Most "factory jobs" start at about $13-$18+ per hour.
The reason for the labor shortage is young people don't waaaaant to work in a factory and would rather fuck around with their friends at Target for $9/hr 20 hrs a week and bitch about it online. I cannot tell you how many dumb fuck teenagers walked out of orientation for $16/hr no experience needed jobs because "this seems boring".

And we wonder why China is fucking us into the dirt.

Teenagers never seem to join up, but the work is pretty tough. At least at the factory my mother works at. Lots of heavy machinery and lifting rather hefty stuff all day.
