I was also surprised to learn they'd only been married 27 years, but I guess Bill is also somewhat younger than I thought. It's pretty common to get divorced at thier age nowadays. The couple may be willing to rough it out in the marriage for the kids, but the moment the kids leave they only have thier hatred for each other and marriage quickly goes down hill.
