If you were Melinda would you take Bill to the cleaners since there was no prenup?

Dailymail has received the documents that show that MELINDA Gates was the one who filed for divorce from the 4th richest man in the world, Bill citing "irretrievably broken" marriage for the reaosn for the divorce!!

The Microsoft founder with a fortune of about 130 billion also did NOT sign a PRENUP agreement according to documents

64 y/o Bill and 56 y/o Melinda announced their shock split after 27 years on twitter as they have properties in 5 states, a private jet, a huge art collection and a fleet of luxury cars

Their eldest daughter, Jennifer also revealed the challenging time for her parents who spoke out on instagram as she is learning to process her emotions for her family at this time and asked for privacy

They also have 2 other adult children, 21 y/o Son, Rory and 18 y/o, Phoebe

This comes less than 2 weeks after they made their last appearance together for a COVID event for healthcare workers

The reason for their split after a quarter of a century is still a mystery but Melinda said previously her husband had trouble balancing work and family

The divorce petition asked the judge to dissolve the marriage on the date stated in their separation contract as that date is unclear when it occurred.

Melinda did not ask for spousal support but requested a trial date in April 2022 and it is likely the divorce will be settled without a trial

Their divorce, though one of the most expensive in history is actually not the most expensive which would be former Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos who split his 150 billion fortune with then wife, MacKenzie in 2019

If you were Melinda, would you take him to the cleaners since there was no prenup?

This whole thing is kinda crazy because you wouldn't expect them of all people to split, especially not at their ages. I was also surprised to learn they'd only been married 27 years, but I guess Bill is also somewhat younger than I thought.

Women file for divorce like 3/4 of the time, so it's not shocking.
Men try to avoid it b/c the courts pillage them.

I don't get why rich dudes even get married, the average dude gets taken to the cleaners enough already, they're on the hook for 10's of millions of dollars or more.

At least she might not get alimony. Takes a special kind of stupid to claim the husband needs to keep working to support the wife b/c she can't work or whatever when they're already at/near retirement age anyway.

It's been 27 years, she'd get almost the same amount either way. I forget how rich he was in the early '90's, but he definitely was much richer post-marriage.

It's pretty common to get divorced at thier age nowadays. The couple may be willing to rough it out in the marriage for the kids, but the moment the kids leave they only have thier hatred for each other and marriage quickly goes down hill. Work from home probably didn't help things either.

On the plus side, Bill Gates losing half (or even 90%) of his fortune would have absolutely no practical impact on his quality of life. Pretty much the only "harm" will be that he'll feel sad because the numbers went down instead of up. At that wealth level, that's really all another couple hundred million amounts to.

Its yahoo but this article does have a very good explanation why this is an amicable split.

they already signed the separation agreement so its pretty much a done deal.

this /\.
states and the fed should make this a condition of a legally recognized marriage.

I think a lot of 80s sitcoms also did a very poor job of telling these stories.
should have been no debate.

sign or you are a gold digger. That simple if something is unreasonable then discuss or negotiate it.

A lot of shit that seems like common sense or should be the default is not, when it comes to marriage and other family law.

Like, paternity tests should be mandatory upon birth before assigning the father, yet it's something that has to be requested (nothing awkward about that!) and paid for as an option, and the default is to just assume the husband/BF is the dad. And once his name's on the birth certificate, even DNA proof it's not his kid often won't get him off the hook.

I guess the downsize of mandatory paternity tests is that you'll have a lot more kids being raised by single moms lol

I wonder how soon she'll rebound. Based on the info she has money/power but never had a man who could blow the back out. I say she goes for a man 15 years younger and is in shape

Have you seen the size of their home?

They could be stuck at home for years without running into each other.

He could lose that nice house, though. Sure, he's got the kind of money to build a new one and to buy similar land, but it's not exactly the same.

This fucking country...

It's even more ridiculous in states like California where a woman can put down a man's name as the father and he only has a certain amount of time to dispute that claim.

Shit, California, too?
I only heard of it happening in Michigan.

It's on my mental list of "reasons Michigan is a shit hole state that I refuse to ever visit or reside in".

True, true. I forgot that some people live in houses the size of hotels. I do think like a peasant I suppose. But regardless the first point is still applicable.

It'd be a change, but I wouldn't call it an appreciable decrease in quality of life. It's a given that divorce is going to bring some significant, unpleasant changes.
