San Antonio had a proposition to weaken the local police unions and it lost 49-51.

I am actually fairly impressed this one was so close. We are not too far off from making progress there.

Of course the Lubbock one is awful but that's basically in the panhandle (reddest part of the state) so zero expectations there. Also not a new concept, though I think it's the biggest one so far. I think other "sanctuary cities for the unborn" are already being challenged.

The Austin one though is just despicable and it wasn't nearly as close - 57/43. Even the most "liberal" of cities hate the homeless and there's no end in sight to that. The solution is literally to just build more cheap housing and shelters but there's no money in it and NIMBYs hate it so it'll never happen. In Dallas it's really bad. There is SO MUCH undeveloped or abandoned land here and the only development plan seems to be to turn the entire city into hip bar districts. Meanwhile the city keeps getting into high-profile altercations by sending cops to break up homeless camps (read: steal/break their shit and push them somewhere else). Conservatives here love to yell "DON'T CALIFORNIA MY TEXAS" and then desperately recreate the San Fransisco housing market on purpose, and the liberals are more than happy to go along with that part.
