That's partially why I was on that chatroom - low bandwidth form of communication, didn't have to refresh any pages or anything. Couldn't even buffer a YouTube video on that connection. The thing about dial-up, or at least the dial-up I had, is that if you disconnected it and then reconnected it, it would reset your IP. That chatroom had a warning system - if you swore, you got one or two warning points based on the severity of the word. If you were just being a rude shit, a moderator could manually warn you. If you spammed chat, or spoke uninterrupted for too many posts, you got a warning point. It was easy to get banned, is what I'm saying - basically, it kicked you off until midnight America time, and then your points got reset because the chat bots reset. Two things you need to know: Those bans were tied to your IP You didn't need an account to enter the chatroom. You just had to type in a username. So one day I'm being a frisky little shit and no-one wants to put up with me. I get five warning points, and it boots me out of the chatroom. But I haven't had my fill yet - I want to keep chatting. So I disconnected my internet, and then I reconnected it. That reset my IP, so I was free to go back into chat. But I can't use my old username - Naughty Dog, because it was my favorite video game company - or they'll just ban me again. First thing that comes to my mind? MrMallard. I actually got away with it for a little while, but eventually I was found out and they banned me again. I went through a couple of other alts, like I think that's when I made DrSavage which became Drest Savageton which became a massive embarrassment. All of them were super obvious and they kicked me as fast as I could come back. But MrMallard was the OG, and it went the distance. I found TV Tropes a couple years later, made it my official username on October 10 2010. From there, it became my go-to username.
