Its really too soon to start planning the next topic, but if anyones around, I have a few questions that might influence things. (Presuming the next topic looks anything like Im imagining it will, which it might not as I change plans on a constant basis until one just happens to be posted.)

In no particular order:

1: Would it be worth trying something like you may nominate up to three hours worth of music?

Instead of the traditional nominate X number of songs or this topics alignment gimmick, people are given a month to nominate as many songs as they want until they hit around three hours worth of music. I actually like the way it sounds, but it requires a bit more effort on everyones parttheyd have to list how long each nomination or album is and keep track of the total time, but its a gimmick I havent personally done & it doesnt incentivize or punish any particular nomination strategy; going with albums or a custom playlist filled with unique songs, you have the same length of time to play with.

But I also dont want to discourage getting a lot of nominators by asking too much of people, so Im kinda hesitant on it. Does it sound like something anyone here would want to try?

2: Automatically including a bunch of songs from past rankingsis it too self-indulgent?

As Ive said a lot recently, I want to revisit the 200 Mega Man song ranking I did with Se7en & my first solo ranking. So, Ive been thinking of taking those 400* songs and inserting them into the next ranking. I have a lot of reasons for doing this:

Mega Man

The rankings used a convoluted scoring system that rather limited how much influence my opinions had, leading to some of my favorite songs getting relatively low scores. I know why I did it that way and it was an important part of building up my confidence to attempt actual topics, but the placements feel rather... arbitrary. Its well past time I actually fix the list and do it properly this time.

Solo Topic #1

I think my musical tastes have changed a fair amount since this ranking was done. Also, in a lot of ways, it was designed to be the antithesis of the Mega Man topic; while MM had convoluted scoring, this topic didnt feature scores for any song at all. [I just kinda made up numbers for the sheet.]

So, I think itd be nice to see how my current views impact things and to actually give these songs a proper score.

General Points In Favor

It wouldnt delay the main ranking or take much time; since I have the full list of songs, itd just be something I listen to and assign scores/write-ups to over the coming months whenever I feel like working on it.

Having familiar songs I already know gives me something easy to work with while Im playing with formatting and deciding exactly how I want the topic to look & how I want to organize my notes, and so forth. Much like the R#s this time, itd help things run smoother if I had something to do a trial run with.

Speaking of which, itd be pretty impossible for me to pull any R# shenanigans if 400* songs that would have been R#d are actually in the main ranking from the start. </.<

Some Arguments Against

It could be really anticlimactic if a song I already love like maclir or Aqua Man wins. You spent all that time finding things to nominate and none of them were as good as this thing nominated years ago, is not exactly the best message for a topic to go out on... of course, I tend to be distracted by whatever my new obsession is, so I dont know how likely this hypothetical even is.

With so many songs being automatically added to the list, theres a chance we could have entire days where all the eliminations are songs from past topics. When youre waiting to see how your nominations did, scrolling through a bunch of songs no one actually wanted to see discussed could be overwhelmingly tedious.

...so... definitely some points for and against it. And I know I could just make a separate topic for these songs or break them into their own little ranking, but I kinda like the idea of directly comparing them to whatever newer nominations show up...

[And I could hypothetically add even more songs by adding those from the second ranking, but theres less reason to do so. Those songs actually had proper scores and rankings, they were ranked much more recently, and it looks like thered be fewer radical shakeups so its less interesting to revisit.]

*Technically, at least one song (Dynamite RavEMIYA) is likely gone forever. Even if I put the component songs into Rave.DJ, some changes to the site result in old mashups not being exactly the way they use to be. And I cant exactly promise to find new links to every song thats had its original link removed (though Ill try), so its more 399 at best than 400... but 400 sounds better and doesnt require an explanation.
