That being said, I gave the shelf a thorough go-over before I lugged it up the stairs. No evidence of bugs (and I made a point of looking up what to watch for where bedbugs are concerned), only a bit of misapplied wood stain -- hardly a deal-breaker. *shrugs* It now houses my NES collection, plus a bunch of tabletop gaming books, with plenty of room to spare.
Eh I doubt bed bugs would be on a book case. Termites is what you should watch out for on those. ---
