I had an elaborate post typed out, but my cat stepped on my computer and reset the whole thing, and then my bunny and other cat stepped on the second post and reset that one too. I guess it means that long awesome post wasn't meant to be, and you all get this.

You know the rules, post anything Geek related whether it be comic book, television, video games, or movie related. You Geek oy we Meek it!

Per usual we have an opening question to keep the topic going and that question is:

Describe your super hero or super villain costume. Would there be a cape or no cape?

Bonus Question: What would your arch hero or arch enemy's costume look like as well?

Wrap up from Geek House of Hooror in the upcoming post.

What that even a suggested topic name? I don't remember that. Kinda meh.

I also realize that if we were really set on doing something vaguely pandemic-themed, I should have suggested Masque of the Red Geek. Would have worked nicely. Guess that's not really a geek thing, though.

No costume. Street wear Grey Man. not trying to stand out for paparazzo, law enforcement, military drones, sentinels, etc. its bad enough i'm a super, i don't need to advertise and have every two bit street hoodlum and gym rat looking to test my patience when i'm just trying to get my eggroll on. absolutely, under no circumstances aside from Halloween will i wear a cape. the disadvantages outweigh the advantages imo. hero, villain, anti-hero...my role matters not. I'd rather be Clark Kent with powers than Superman. maintaining a secret identity is just too much work.

my nemesis/archenemy? fuck that person. if they want to wear OSHA-approved High Viz colors with giant pauldrons, pipe their costume with buffoonery that glows like a lightsaber, ground effects in the shoes, fog machine, giant billowing cloak...hell, let them be followed everywhere they go with an 80 piece marching band playing their theme, fine with me.

After reading Hero? I Quit that a Long Time Ago, I'm kinda back into the cloak/cape camp, although mostly because Zero uses his aura to create the disguise which is a fucking cool way of doing it. (Although he *had* a physical cloak prior to realizing it was easier to just manifest his aura.) If I was going to use a disguise, I'd want it to be something I could manifest quickly, instead of having to do a quick costume change.

And cloaks are generally effective in terms of disguise because they obfuscate your size, posture, etc. And if it was a manifestation, the practical flaws wouldn't be issues (ie, getting tangled or stuck)

The Wave Master posted...
Bonus Question: What would your arch hero or arch enemy's costume look like as well?

Something that strongly contrasts my disguise, because that's how you do it right. For example, if I was going for a dark armored look, my nemesis would need would need white armor. If my look accentuated size, theirs would need a more slender design.

Then on a concept level, their weapons/abilities would either have to be similar to mine with some contrast (ie, if we both used "magic," we'd use different styles -- water vs fire, light vs darkness, etc) or a more complementary contrast (ie, if I went with magic, they could be a swordsman or archer since it'd be in keeping with a more medieval theme... or it'd be magic vs science or something)

I haven't seen P.O. post in a while, but I also don't look at other topics on Gamefaqs, so who knows.

I'm currently playing through Final Fantasy VII Remake again after the move, and the game is much better when my stomach isn't turning hard and trying to kill me, or 2 people I love dearly aren't dropping dead.

I understand the game play better, and the story makes a lot more sense. I was clearly distracted by life to enjoy the game, and a restart was all I needed.

Also, apple pop tarts and fruit loop pop tarts are really freaking good. The second one taste like a bowl of fruit loops without the milk or bowl.

tbh, when I first saw that, I wasn't sure if you were responding to something or raising a point but yes, his absence was felt almost immediately. Within 3 days I was like, "This is weird, PO hasn't responded in a while." At first it was curious, then concerning, and at this point it's worrying.

Even in the before-times, an absence of this length would be disconcerting. But we're in the age of COVID.

Dallas blew it today. That's not surprising. Being a modern Cowboys fan is tough. Granted we had a lot of injuries this season, but up until 30 minutes ago we had a chance to get to the playoffs. It's probably better that we didn't make the playoffs because of a higher draft pick.

DefunctLand's Universal Ghostbusters video really makes me want a crossover film between Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viiEHzz2EkA

Preferably while the currently-surviving cast members are still around. Although, if Keaton couldn't reprise the role of Beetlejuice, I'd be okay with Danny DeVito taking over >_>

tat being said, as a giant's fan, we were 0-4 at week 5. we shouldn't even be sniffing the jockstraps of the playoffs, but the NFC East is that bad this year.

My Jets fired Adam Gase as head coach. That is a good start.

Being a superhero might give me a good excuse to wear a duster again, though I might then be called Neckbeard Man, and that is a no-no.

Whether I am Neckbeard Man or not, though, my nemesis is still Soccer Mom, who can be identified by her Karen hair and her minivan.

tbh, whenever I think of dusters nowadays, I remember that long running gag from Always Sunny with the duster.

I remember the discussion and criticisms about superhero dusters at the time, which basically amounted to going with them because they wanted to move away from capes (and because the Matrix was big and a lot of other movies had taken a few pages regarding style from it) yet they weren't any more practical.

I own a duster, but I can't recall the last time I wore it.

After watching most of DefunctLand's Jim Henson videos (as well as a lot of their other stuff lately -- which has been somewhat addicting; I honestly didn't think I'd enjoy watching videos about rollercoasters when I've never been a fan of rollercoasters), I noticed that the Happyland Murders were available on NF. I had wanted to watch it ever ever since learning it was a thing and... it was alright. However, the lack of worldbuilding really bugged me. There's never any explanation for why puppets are just living alongside humans, no real discussion as to the mechanics of how they exist, inconsistency regarding their ability to get hurt or die, why they're disliked by humans, etc.

I'd be okay with taking it as a given that they just exist if not for those inconsistent rules regarding their physiology. It just felt very incomplete. However, having watched the Happyland Murders, now I'm kinda interested in watching Bright (which didn't interest me much even before it was critically panned) simply because it shares part of the premise.

As did the comics. Joss Whedon "bringing back the tights" in Astonishing X-Men in '04 was a direct reaction to Grant Morrison putting the team all in black (dusters included) in New X-Men in '01.

I did get my roof fixed from Hurricane Zeta last October. I need to get the rest of the side of the house fixed and my fence rebuilt, but 1 down 2 to go, and the money is safely in the bank ready to pay off contractors as needed.

I was thinking of buying Hades for The Switvh as it was nominated for several game of the year awards, and it's on sale on the Nintendo E Shop for 20 bucks. I can swing 20 bucks even though I'm on a limited budget every month.

If any of you fellow Geeks have played the game let me know if it's worth my time and money. Because I would rather hear from you Geeks than some crazy reviewer on YouTube or some website.

Well, took over 40 minutes to get the "point" of why siege ladder pushing (as depicted in movies) was unrealistic and stupid, but LindyBeige really hammered that one home. I always thought it didn't make a lot of sense on an intuitive level.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5oDKhqka8Y

It's also always funny to see him (and comparable youtubers) do paid promo for the Great Courses Plus and similar paid learning when their free programming is more entertaining and possibly more informative than anything you might find in those courses >_>

Honestly, with the glut of free educational materials out there -- a lot of which is produced by people with credentials every bit as authoritative as their paid counterparts (as well as highly informed hobbyists like Lloyd/Lindy) -- it's a wonder that the paid stuff exists at all. I suppose it must just be the fact that the overhead is so low on things like GC+

And, far more generally, a lot of the traditional education models are outdated and stupid.

Watched the Chase. It's kinda backwards because I'm inclined to root for the "chaser" rather than the contestants (and I'm inclined to believe that many others feel the same) simply because we know and like these former Jeopardy champs. That kinda fucks with the dramatic tension, etc, and reverses where it normally would be. It wouldn't be an issue if they had gone with a more controversial or despised Jeopardy champion (Arthur Chu being a good example, although even he wasn't really hated).

The first episode was... eh. The assigned nicknames are stupid. (Ken Jennings is the "Professor," a nickname I've never heard for him. "Jeopardy" James was called "The Highroller" -- which makes sense -- but he's really just known as Jeopardy James, which makes it a little silly. Granted, it might be a trademark issue with Sony.) The host sucks. The format has issues, particularly the "low offer" has relatively limited purpose since the minimum is set reasonably high. Likewise, there doesn't seem to be much disadvantage to the "high offer" being some crazy amount.

Apparently it's a reboot of a show (which was based on a British show)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chase_(American_game_show)

The stuff that's coming out about Microsoft from the past 20 years in the gaming industry is hilarious.

First they tried to buy Nintendo, or at least met with them about buying them out, and when that failed, because duh, they tried to partner up with them on something else... who knows?

Now it turns out when developing the first XBox Microsoft dismantled a PS2 to come up with ideas to help the development of their first console.

I don't know how all of this is leaking or why, but it's awesome and they should keep it up because it's fascinating.

LindyBeige tears apart the designs of fantasy figurines (and it's a very misleading, clickbait thumbnail that seems uncharacteristic for him):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL-bkO4su3I

One of the more interesting points -- that I've heard before but often forget -- is the issue with proportionate scaling when it comes to the design and musculature of giants.

And then he got into a brief side discussion about the size creep of figurines, regarding how the scale has gradually grown over time.

Take it with a grain of salt -- Reports are circulating that Chris Evans may reprise the role of Captain America in the MCU

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/chris-evans-may-return-to-the-mcu-as-captain-america-report/1100-6486319

Given that they introduced alternate timelines, etc, into the MCU, they can pretty much do anything at this point. It's also an easy out if the fact that they changed both Cap and IM happens to lead to the next movie tanking because Captain Mary-Sue can't carry the Avengers.
