Another trade

Bears receive:
QB Teddy Bridgewater (90 overall, 26 years old)
Buccaneers S16 7th round pick

Buccaneers receive:
Bears 1st round pick (6th overall)
Bears S16 1st round pick

The Bucs will incur a $6.57 mil cap penalty to shed to $7.96 cap hit

The Bears will assume a $5.77 mil cap hit

The Bears have been searching for a long-term answer at QB after David Carr retired to no avail. In recent seasons, they have shown to not be shy about giving up high draft picks to get great, proven players such as SS Derek Linde and DE Everson Griffen. They don't have much cap space right now, so getting a player of Teddy's caliber at a discount to the cap is also a cost-efficient way to improve the team while pushing for their first playoff appearance.

The Bucs have gone 9-23 the past two seasons even with Teddy, so they figure it is time for a committed rebuild. Given Teddy's performance, age, and rating, he has a high trade value and this trade will give them a great jumpstart on their rebuild by giving them two of the top six picks in the draft and an additional first next season.

Both parties demonstrated that they understood what each party was giving up and receiving, the financial impact, past histories of players, and what each team hoped to achieve with the trade.

This trade is now official.
