Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth beated.

Excellent game/series, would highly recommend to anyone willing to put the time in to play the series.

I think last time I posted I'd just beaten Raiko. The trip to Tuskur was fun and getting to see Eruruu and Hakuowlo again was great. Now Woshis... if there was a weak point in Mask of Truth, I think the Woshis plot and the direction it ended up spinning off into is it. I actually started spinning through Woshis theories in real time during the confrontation in the Capital and for a moment I thought it was going to turn out that Woshis was a clone of Haku to complete the Mikado's recreating his family with Honoka and Anju and I think I'd have preferred that but eh. Still, if it all ended there with Amaterasu firing, and Woshis ultimately realizing he completely missed that he was loved all along, that'd be fine. But I wasn't a fan of how this lead to him using the prototype Akuruka and going semi-Uitsulnemetia. Which plays into the real losers of the game - the Watanarabe. We could have done without those guys, I think. Shichiriya is cool, he can stay, but the rest really overstayed their welcome.

Anyway, the endgame/final battle was quite honestly god-tier and among the absolute best in all of gaming, IMO. I was going to be upset if Kuon just transformed into a monster like the rest of the Akurutukura and not have Evil!Kuon/Uitsulnemetia!Kuon be the boss but then the way it actually got pulled off was AAA++++. The shadow clones of the old party were fun, just like Prelude the Final Strike dialogue changed for the final battle, and then when Kuon "really" appeared in her prison orb thing I was 100% satisfied with the battle taking that form. But I was absolutely floored when I did my first Co-Op Final Strike on Kuon and it broke into a unique dialogue between the co-op partners before and through the Co-Op Final Strike. It being Haku and Nekone made it even more powerful, I was shedding tears by the end of it.

Also glad that Haku's death "probably" stuck. No problems with happy endings but it would have cheapened his goodbye scenes when he turned to salt if he literally came back for real in that final battle. I like the bittersweet take a lot more and I suppose there's some ambiguity there if you want to believe. I do think there's some lowkey horror that the twins are apparently with him though because uh... how did they manage that one? I was hoping they'd start living life on their own like Haku wanted but they somehow ended up in the semi-heaven that Uitsulnemetia has? Also, it was nice ending on Eruruu and Hakuowlo finally getting to be together for real after everything in the first game.

Bleh, probably have a lot more thoughts and as always I can be poked for specific ones if anyone wants, but overall this was definitely an amazing experience. Like with MoD before, I'll stick around for the postgame because actually the gameplay in MoT is like... way improved and genuinely super fun, IMO. After that... Persona 5 Strikers, I think. Then perhaps I'll jump on that 13 Sentinels bandwagon.

Character Ranking: Kuon > Haku > Nekone > Rulutieh > Mikazuchi > Anju > Oshtor > Ougi > Raiko > Shis > Atuy >= Jachtwaldt > Mikado > Twins > Munechika > Itak > Woshis > Nosuri > Kiwru > Honoka > Fumirul > Maroro > Vurai

Anju/Oshtor and above are excellent/incredible characters. Mikado and above are really good. And it isn't really until you get to Honoka where I start going "meh."
