Journey to the Savage Planet (XB1)

I've played a surprisingly amount of games that are truly funny this year, and you can add this to the list.

It definitely was inspired by Metroid Prime, and at its best, it matches the platforming heights that the series achieved. Aesthetically and structurally, I loved the planet too.

The game really needed a map though. There were a healthy amount of transporters, but it was easy to get lost or lose track of something that you didn't have the gear/ammo the first time you came across it. Additionally, combat was a big disappointement. Like the MP series, it was pretty barebones, but unlike MP, it was implemented well. It hamstrung by a small gun clip/longer reload speed, a finicky lock-on system, and inconsistent AI that often made dodging a virtual coin flip.
