The hero power mage gimmick is something I like the idea of, but it feels like yet another gimmick that won't get enough support to ever actually do anything.

I mean, the two revealed cards don't seem like they need any support other than each other.

One of them is a 4 mana 3/5 with attached Arcane Explosion (that also hits face for 1).

Pretty solid when you realize that the following 2 cards saw play--a 5 mana 3/6 with a whirlwind effect:

The other card only really requires synergy from the first card, and then it becomes a 10 mana pyroblast the opponent's face while summoning a 10/10 and clearing their board.

I'm not sure if you run the core set hero power cards like Coldarra Drake or Fallen Hero alongside these cards, but pretty sure you could just run these two cards stand-alone.
