Quit blaming Bay for this, he's just a producer in this case.
Some idiot writer came up with this idea. Blame him.
The producer is still, overall, responsible for everything in the movie. Bay could've canned the writer's script if he wanted.
edit: A good example of this is when Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins got rid of the original script for the Hunger Games and wrote it themselves.
