#205:

Its been long enough that Im willing to give a fair chance to that Pain of Salvation album, so lets pick up where we left off. I think theres only five songs left (unless I deal with the extended Anniversary Edition), so lets try to get through it all.

Pain of Salvation - Reconciliation: A vast improvement over the songs I heard last time I checked the album and one I actually like quite a bit. Its got the requisite blunt sadness, but the lyrics are quite vague... its more unspeakable trauma than anything specific which makes it so much easier to listen to. Like, its obvious exactly what trauma and things are being implied due to the rest of the album, but theres nothing specific in the song itself. Easily a 70 point song, possibly more on repeated listens.

Pain of Salvation - Song for the Innocent: ...I dunno. Its fine, I suppose, 50-something points.

Pain of Salvation - Falling: Space filling instrumental intro. Its pretty enough, but its just the intro to The Perfect Element (the albums title track) and I dont see much reason to split it off into its own thing. Perfect Element is already over ten minutes long, so its not like an extra minute or two would have made much difference.

Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element: Well, Im aware this is a great song. If you want an epic prog metal song, this is definitely one of the better ones. And its varied enough to not feel particularly long or tedious, even with its ten minute runtime... but Im not crazy about it. Probably a 60 point type song? I mean, I like it, but there are other songs on the album I like more.

Pain of Salvation - Epilogue: Eh. Sad instrumental that doesnt make me feel sad, leaving it as rather filler-esque. Not bad though.

And... that seems to be it. Weve got some live performances and extra tracks available, but I think Ill pass on them for now. So, the album... not bad? It had four songs I liked on it, which is honestly more than I expected. The albums lows are really lowlike officially missing House of Balloons lowbut it has enough high points that Id say Im glad I finally got around to listening to it.

There are five vtuber songs left in #185 and room for five more songs before I hit my personal goal of 10 songs, so thats convenient.

waslemon - rainy: Nah. Something I should like (rain, and a cat, and its got... not quite a lo-fi sound, but closer to lo-fi than most vtuber songs) but..I think I slightly disliked it. 49 points, maybe?

*gets distracted by the new Iteachvader song posted today, Where are you taking me?* I rather like that one too. Alright, back to work.

Kaf - Devour the Past (Live): Good lyrics (from what I can make out anyway), but its a bit too energetic... at least 60 points, but not exactly top-tier Kaf.

Kitakami Ton - Anti-Joker: Its...alright, but Id rather listen to Miku.

*goes to listen to Where are you taking me? a second time.*

...Right, right, two actual posted songs left.

Yuuzutsu Tear - Ai Kotoba III: Song is good, dont really care about the lyrics. Leaning towards 59 points for a first impression, though I think it has decent potential to grow on me with repeated listens.

Yoitsuki Mia - Super Rotation: Bouncy and cute, with the most pronounced THUMPING BEAT thus far in the post ranking. I rather like the very few points that beat isnt there... not enough to salvage the songs score, but its like theres a very great song underneath the pounding, which is something.
