Really? Where at? We get ours out of Detroit Salt Company. What's the process like mining it out?

I used to work at a salt mine in kansas. The mine was over 1000 feet underground; it wasn't open air. You had to ride a bucket on a rope to get down into the mine.

The mine itself was miles of tunnels. we used a lot of explosives to mine, anfo specifically. there was a giant drill that would drill big holes into the mine face, and we would fill these with explosive. then we would use these large loader like machines to put the chunks of broken salt through a crusher that made it smaller. this system would eventually bring it to the buckets (the same one we used to get in and out) to haul the salt out of the mine.

These buckets dumped the salt out at the top into a conveyor system that processed the salt further; we sold different sizes of rock salt for various things. some of it got transferred to bulk storage areas, while a lot of it was bagged.
