But there have been more rigorous studies about lottery winners that I unfortunately can't find the links to anymore. If I remember correctly, it was around the $10 million mark where the scale tips past 50% chance for the winners of large sums of money to end up destitute, dead, or in prison within a few years. It's been a while since I read the study, though, so I might be a bit off on the numbers.
