Johnbobb 01/20/21 11:27:02 PM #216:	rewatched In Bruges tonight I say rewatched but it's been a long time since I've seen the film. I remember that I liked the film a lot, and I remembered basic things like the characters, the premise, the tone, etc. but I couldn't actually remember what ends up happening in the back half of the film. Needless to say, there's a good reason I thought as highly of it as I did; the movie is excellent. The movie raises the question of "how dark can a dark comedy get and still be considered a comedy?" The answer is: VERY dark. Like REALLY goddamn dark. The writing is so aggressive and cheeky and really just funnier than it has any right to be. So much of the comedy comes from the awkward mix of respect and malevolence between people who've made their careers as killers, but who still recognize each other as friends and associates. The city itself feels so unique. It's dreamlike and beautiful and also boring and ugly, depending on the day and the perspective. ~~It tries to be a drama, a comedy, a thriller, an action crime piece, and it succeeds at all of them.~~ The film gets an easy 10/10 from me.
