I swear, most people have no idea what the hell it means to be an older virgin. Looking at the rule, and not the exceptions (asexuals, that one lucky fat friend who pulls left and right, etc) that people pull out as if it's the rule, you get very deep rooted issues that have affected people for all of history.

What does it mean to be an older virgin? It could mean many things: you weren't brought up well, socially held back, not attractive, possibly not motivated in life, depression, never been wanted or loved by anyone outside of family, rejection after rejection, obessession over a particular person for years, no time, no money, no confidence, too weird, the list just goes on and on.

If someone says they're a virgin, that's a fully loaded statement. It's not that they chose it (again, the rule and not the exception), it's not a personality trait in and of itself, but it has meaning to it that almost entirely consists of multiple issues. These people aren't just looking for a quick fuck. They don't wanna pay a couple hundred bucks, drive out, rent a hotel, anxiety over avoiding cops, etc. They want a relationship. They want to be loved. They want their existence validated. They're people, all of us are. And when such basic things aren't met, for years, far longer than most people, it wears on you. This isn't rocket science. So many people ignore the facts of mental health and psychology. Dating apps know these things and they've even posted undeniable proof of just how bad it is for the people who even bother searching, ignoring the even higher amount outside of them who have given up.

Legalizing sex work is good. I'm for it. But I also know that the people using it will almost entirely be composed of those who are already able to get sex. And it's also not uncommon to hear how someone regrets seeing a sex worker because it was their only option, because they weren't seen as valuable to the people they tried to date.

Give it 200 years, maybe people will take this seriously.
