Topic | Reddit is great if you don't like discussion. |
TheCodeisBosco 01/18/21 2:49:19 PM #66: | The most common defense of Reddit is that the small subreddits are better than the big ones. And like, I get it - /r/truefilm is obviously better than /r/movies, for instance. But because of the way the site is set up, any subreddit will inevitably be either vulnerable to or actively afflicted by problems such as power-tripping mods, hivemind behavior, upvote manipulation and "downvoting to disagree". Additionally, while one can and should ignore the problem subs, that doesn't stop them from causing damage to society (The_Donald during its barely-regulated years, the incel subs)... or at the very least, promoting shitty behavior en masse (/r/amitheasshole, /r/relationships... hell, just about any sub dealing with interpersonal communication). I realize that every website has good and bad aspects, but I don't think the positives of Reddit outweigh the negatives. At all. I'd love for it to just vanish into thin air; the good aspects, like historian accounts and price-drop alerts, can be readily found elsewhere. --- The music was thud-like.
