I had an old machine for 8.5 years and never used sleep, ran fine until near the end of that period. However the problem was the psu must have had a leaky/bad capacitor and if the weather outside dropped to 40 degrees F it was cold enough in the house to prevent a boot. I guess it was just as well, as it was running Vista and just 2 months before it was announced "no more glorious Vista". The rest of it was ok, but old, and finding a replacement psu with molex connectors in 2016 was kind of a "why even bother"

As for which one, depends on when the next time you're going to use it. I don't like letting it sleep personally, especially for 2-3 days straight. Also because it presents a grave danger to others in the house, such as my monitor's standby light being amber, so they gotta interrogate me why it's broken.

Adding to this, to those that don't understand what I'm refering. I once had my browser on a blank white tab, because I didn't close/minimize it. It was there for a total of 2 minutes and got questioned like "what's wrong with the computer" "why's it like that" "how much is it gonna cost to fix" "do you need a new one" ... "it's just on a blank page" "a what, why's it blank, is it broken"
