Do Democrats even want Trump to no longer be able to hold office? I would think if I was a 2024 presidential candidate I would love for Trump to win/ drive republicans into rascist positions again.

you don't need trump for that.
like trump himself would be too old in 2024 to practically run anyway, this would definitely serve an excuse for him to go "I'd run if I could but..." as he shills for his would-be successors, which he'd do anyway. but it does eliminate him from other offices as well as some benefits post-presidents get. also Dems are big on messaging so yes, they'd want it for that alone.

...though thinking about it, not sure if impeachment would prevent him from taking state office too. different government, after all.
