I can understand the sentiment, considering it takes a lot of time to really get into an RPG and the immersion can be ruined by breaking it into smaller chunks. Plus, if somebody doesn't have a lot of time, they might want to break it between shorter games rather than just focus on one.

Of course, in the case of a completely open-world title, the draw is often theming rather than an overarching story (making it a bit like an amusement park), so it can -- in theory -- be more pick-up-and-play than some other longer titles.

However, realistically speaking, when I don't have a lot of time, I'm going to avoid things that I know I'd enjoy if I could dedicate more hours to them. There are a lot of shows I could break up that I hold off because I want to binge them.

Also in the hierarchy of life, the universe, and everything, you're going to have priorities. People only have so many hours in a week and so many weeks in their lives. Longer content may be a turnoff for people precisely because it is longer and they see that investment of time, which they compare to the payoff in their mind. It's the same thing as with any number of activities. For instance, a lot of people talk about wanting to write a book but not having the time. From a technical standpoint, they could break it up to just an hour a day -- which could be like 800 words per day -- that builds to a complete book over time. However, there's something to be gained when you can devote more time to doing that because you might be more productive if you spend longer periods at a time writing. More likely, though, it's not that strong of a want or they measure the amount of time they spent writing vs a perceived payout (ie, worries that they won't find a publisher, that it won't sell if they self-publish, etc).

This could be applied to real life stuff too.

It's more true of real-life stuff than anything else, although energy can be an issue besides just motivation. If I'm feeling burned out at the end of the day -- even if I don't feel tired -- it's going to be that much harder for me to get something done.
