In that regard, yes, both events were incredibly damaging to the long term health of the nation.

But 9/11 changed the mentality of the nation, at first for good (unity) but eventually for worse. The capitol riots happened after months of incitement by Trump, starting with COVID in March and increasing greatly with the election.

In other words I don't think the capitol riots changed the nation's mentality much. Relatively few people stopped supporting Trump after them and a ton of people are still defending Trump and the rioters.
