I like the idea of healing with magic instead of relying on potions. My health isn't regenerating naturally or anything.

I would recommend taking a level of Vigor in the early game, especially if you are a mage. It gives out of battle health regen and increased out of battle magic regen.

You'll still need potions when you are in combat, but you'll save a bunch since you'll heal outside of that.
