So in high school, I generally ran around 170-180 lbs, and I had a brief spike in college where I got up to 210 lbs, before dropping back down to the 180-190 region for most of my adult life. Sadly, when I started my job in March 2019, the combination of stress and poor eating habits (many nights, when it's 10 pm and you're heading home from work and there's about 5 fast food restaurants of the way home, it's just easier to grab a burger). By the time I left my job in October last year, I was pushing 230 and since I've been home I've struggled with the same issues, and for the first time in my life I'm over 240 lbs.

I hate to take the New Years Resolution route, but something about seeing that 240 that was really sobering. So I think the best thing to do is to start off slowly and make a few basic changes that should help both lose weight and get me healthier (especially after my battle with bronchitis).

No more fast food.

One of the toughest things about my new job is that it's a 50 minute drive one way. Which isn't a big deal getting out there but sadly my shift ends at 10 PM here, too, and after an exhausting day of work another near hour of driving, it could be (and was) easy to just grab something, especially when there's like 5 different places a block away from work. So far, I started this on Monday and I haven't been too terribly tempted to get anything so far these 3 days. I also uninstalled all the apps on my phone so I'm not longer looking at discounts at McDonalds and such. And I've loaded up my fridge with both things to cook and things to quickly heat up so when I get home tired and don't want to cook, I've got something there. And also there's a Meijer right next door, too, so I can pick up something healthy there, too.

Drink less soda/pop

This one has always been a tough one because I can always quit for sustained periods of time, but the desire never goes away. I never feel all that different not drinking them, even when I went 3+ months without a pop. So for now I'm gonna aim for drinking less. Right now I'm at a 20 oz per day (usually I take one with me to work) so I think cutting that down to 2-3 times a week would be a good start. Maybe some day I'll phase it out, but for now just starting with small steps.

Go for a walk every night.

This is the toughest one because going from reasonably warm Florida to cold-ass Michigan, with temperatures often below freezing when I get home, it's not exactly fun to bundle up and take a walk here. But at the same time, the closest gym is closed down due to Covid and the next closest is a 35-40 minute drive and there's no space for a treadmill in my place, that I should start putting honest effort into doing a little bit of walking every night. I miss riding my bike but A) it's too cold and B) it got stolen. So walking will have to do for now.

I'll probably expand what I do as time goes on, but I need to start somewhere.
