#90 Darksiders (Playstation 3, 2010)

Darksiders is one of the only games that has taken on the Legend of Zelda "formula" and actually managed to be on par with its inspiration. It takes the basic framework of the Zelda games (explore world, enter dungeon, get item, use item, repeat) and combines it with a slick character action system that doesn't really get old.

The art design is one of the strong points of the series. It evokes a lot of the classic 3D action adventure games from the N64 and PS2 eras, but makes it all very smooth and slick. The story moves quickly and delivers a great cliffhanger ending. Too bad the sequels decided not to actual advance the story at all ever.

I know I complain about game series that fail to innovate, but I wish that Darksiders 2 and 3 did not try so hard to be something different. The first Darksiders is easily the best of the three (have not played Genesis) and I would have loved to play more of it.
