375: ALL INDIA RADIO - VEGA:

https://youtu.be/_N-S7ETO04E

Nominator: Jesse_Custer (13/15)

Initial Score: 54.37 [#315]
Revised Score: 57.68 [#327]
Final Score: 58.06 [#375]

(First Thoughts: Watching that triangle floating through space made me think of Asteroids and then I started laughing, almost too hard to focus on the song itself. Restarting to listen without the video messing with my judgment, I think I like what the song is doingpsychedelic rock* is a genre that doesnt get much representation in these topics, I was easily sold on the space theme, and it seems kinda like my sort of jam... but it never fully draws me in. It did make me curious about other songs from the band though, as I feel there should be something i love if I poked around long enough.

...havent listened to too many songs yet. Crystal Storm seems like the type of soundscape that might work for me, if I was in the right headspace at the time it came on. Monsters would probably be great if it were an instrumentalnot that I dislike the singer, but I like what theyre doing instrumentally on that track and I dont want her covering up the parts of the song I want to focus on. Her presence would be incredibly welcomed on Vega (which feels like its missing something), just...not as much on a track that I want to hear as an instrumental.

[This has been an episode of Raetsel talks about every song except the one shes supposed to be listening to. We now return you to your regularly scheduled ranking topic, already in progress.]

Well, Vega is so well-produced it made me drop everything to listen to several other songs by the band, so it has that going for it. I doubt many songs in this ranking topic will be able to say that.

*Okay so I dont entirely know what psychedelic rock is either, Ive been led to believe that Pink Floyd is as an example and this song felt like instrumental Pink Floyd, so here we are.)

Interesting ambient track that could use some lyrics to accompany it, but is still good-ish anyway.

[Final Thoughts: I do like the song, just not quite enough to move it up a tier.]

374: BEN PRUNTY - OLD SITE (BLACK MOONRISE MIX):

https://youtu.be/6eeIEMOQw4s

Nominator: Jesse_Custer (12/15). Also Metalmind_Stats & Shonen_Bat

Initial Score: 65.00 [#175]
Revised Score: 57.82 [#325]
Final Score: 58.08 [#374]

(First Thoughts: Close to greatness. I love songs with low tones and instrumentals with an oppressive feel to them, those things can reverberate through my soul... but when you compare it to the pure crushing force of Triangle from the Thumper Soundtrack, the suffocating trapped feeling of Dark Tube from Mycros nominations last year, or the powerful drowning sensation from Bleached Coral (another Mycro nomination from last year), the song is just lacking. A+ choice of song genre, just not quite there.)

I really cant figure out why this of all songs is so popular that three different people wanted me to listen to it, but alright. Its good, obviously. I still like the genre, the style, the choices of instruments, but it never quite hits me as hard as I want it to.

[Final Thoughts: Right genre and idea, but its not quite at the next tier.]
