What he suggested people start doing is in their email signature / general conversation to say your preferred pronoun. This way it becomes a common thing to do, and doesn't single out those that need to use it. (AKA - it takes the pressure off of them to bring it up first, because others are already bringing it up) In both general conversation and e-mails people tend to refer to each other by their NAMES which happen to be NOUNS. When I talk to someone I call them by their NAME (which is a noun), I don't refer to them as their pronoun. 99.99% of people refer to others by their NAMES (which happen to be nouns), not by their pronouns, regardless of who they are.
