Games released back in the day had no chance of being fixed after going gold so if they were broken, and a lot of them were, it stayed broken. With the ubiquitous nature of the internet, developers now factor in post gold development time knowing that a day 1 patch is a viable tool. Gamers convince themselves that its very big brained to criticize patched but fact is quality control has never been better in gaming. Agreed. With how complex games are these days, it's near impossible to get things right at launch.
