The Aldis by me apparently hires people at $15.20 an hour starting. That's not that bad for that sort of thing. Not great, but better than most comparable jobs.
IF you can get a job, in my experience no more than 2 or 3 people are working a store. But they seem pretty happy. Last time I was there there was a line of 8 customers with one cashier and one of the jackass customers was telling the cashier to STOP checking out people and turn off a light 2 lanes away because it bothered him and tricked customers into thinking there were 2 lines open when there was one. Poor girl, but she seemed fine when I talked to it afterward and told her that guy was an absolute ass.

It might be a bit of a harder working job since there are less people. I imagine you have to stock shelves AND check out at the same time too. But if you have a good buddy out on the field it can make the experience fun.
