we were all united against an enemy. manufacturing jobs exploded and young men were off participating in a highly risky, hugely meaningful, physically engaging war.

now we're divided against each other, our economy is separating at the ends, and we have to sit on our asses. There's no meaning in our every day life. It's too intangible and one huge prisoner's dilemma as far as trying to build financial and social capital.

we're right dicked is what we are.

I think last paragraph really hits the depth of the situation. If you talk to most Americans they will tell you they dont feel like they have control of the countrys direction, and they dont. Most states are color coded so your vote barely counts, and laws and legislation are most influenced by the top 1%. Its like riding a roller coaster where the only view you have is watching everything around you die and youre just trying to do what you can to enjoy the experience.
