In WW2, everyone did their part, and made sacrifices.
If another global war broke out, Americans would be too selfish help out in a major way.

I agree. We're living in the "excuse" generation. It's a lot easier to bitch from a keyboard than to actual work to enact anything.

USA of today would enter peace negotiations with Japan long before Midway because people back home are bitching about rationing.

It's because America cared a lot more back then and tried to have a real economy more.

Right now everyone is mad at how the economy is being ran.
Plus besides, back then in world War 2, everyone felt together in a global fight against Hitler and the nazis

America seemed pretty united in 2001 when the War in Afghanistan started. Didn't last long tho.

The unity, not the war lol

Because, the Republicans realized nobody really liked them and so they started to heavily push that they're the pro gun pro life party and tried to convince Christians that if they're really Christian they'd vote Republican.

That created a big divide which was mostly Karl Roves idea and fault.

we were all united against an enemy. manufacturing jobs exploded and young men were off participating in a highly risky, hugely meaningful, physically engaging war.

now we're divided against each other, our economy is separating at the ends, and we have to sit on our asses. There's no meaning in our every day life. It's too intangible and one huge prisoner's dilemma as far as trying to build financial and social capital.

we're right dicked is what we are.

Pretty sure before we were attacked most Americans wanted to stay out of the war.

I don't disagree with what I'm guessing your point is. If we were attacked today, there would be no unity.

I think last paragraph really hits the depth of the situation. If you talk to most Americans they will tell you they dont feel like they have control of the countrys direction, and they dont. Most states are color coded so your vote barely counts, and laws and legislation are most influenced by the top 1%. Its like riding a roller coaster where the only view you have is watching everything around you die and youre just trying to do what you can to enjoy the experience.

Americans were still reeling from the first World War and picking up from the Depression.

And the second would be because it's something America has done to deserve it by some.

Then quit reading everything in a vaccum. I had said that in response to the person before me that had said that we had seemed like we weren't really divided until the year 2000.

So my repsonse was that the Republicans had set out to define what they wanted to say they really believed in and had picked things that pandered to gun nuts and religious people so they'd feel they where always obligated to vote Republican.

Which started to plant a deep divide in this nation..
