Minit is an interesting game, but the whole premise is kinda flawed. Its a 2-D adventure where you have 60 seconds to progress in some meaningful way BEFORE YOU DIE. Like, regardless of what happens, the game ends after 60 seconds. And then you start over again, retaining some of your progress, a la rogue-like.

By itself, that would be an interesting set-up for a game. However, eventually you hit a point where you just go and wtf am I supposed to be doing? Youve explored all the meaningful directions you can go, grabbed all the items, attempted to use them with the tiny sliver of time that remains, and simply nothing seems to progress until you hit the point where youd really just love the game to shut off the goddamn timer for a second and let you decipher what youre supposed to do. Kill me before I can actually advance, fine. I dont care, but let me decide what arcane gibberish youre looking for to proceed.

So although I got past the first few twists and turns, eventually I ended up in some kind of desert area where its hard to figure out where theres even a point of interest to interact with, let alone how to interact with it. Maybe I should have referenced a guide, but this doesnt feel like the sort of game where you should need a guide. Plus, the black-and-white supremely low-res pixel graphics seem like something that should have been left behind on CGA-era DOS games. The dev was clearly intending for that look, but its really not very attractive after a while. (Also, why are the songs on the soundtrack more than a minute long?)

I can accept the idea that Minit presents, and for a short while it was even entertaining, but the central conceit really doesn't mesh well with the type of game Minit aspires toward.

Should you play it?: For 60 seconds, sure. Maybe even 120.
