Scarcity of content has been a thing for a long time. There's only so many books in each genre, etc.

Hypothetically speaking, let's say that there was no scarcity at the genre level -- which, in theory, there technically isn't if you throw quality out the window and solely look at amount of content (which is basically what you have with most streaming) -- why do you feel that would stop people from looking at and talking about older titles? And why do you feel that it wouldn't be relevant for there to be older, long-popular titles?

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I care much about what it makes for the artist in terms of money. If theres constantly NEW good stuff to watch, theres no reason to go back and watch old stuff.

If somebody is starting something and knows that something is old, but very good vs something that's new and kinda okay, your operating theory is that they'll just go with the new & okay each time? Because even within anime and manga, that doesn't bear out. You have a large number of people -- including those in this topic -- who also visit older series.

A lot of people feel that way, largely because of the social aspect of discussing "current" content. You aren't really a part of that so I'm not surprised it all makes no sense to you.

Do you mean in general or just anime/manga? Because there's a very practical difficulty that makes following new anime a nuisance. New manga isn't as bad, and there are several series that I'm following that are still in production.

And, in terms of content consumption, binging is a popular trend and has a pretty clear social element. Your modality for content consumption and discussion reflects a very outdated way of thinking.
